Title:     Precision measurements in metastable hydrogen: new tools for old problems

Abstract: Hydrogen atoms are perfectly poised at the cusp of complexity. They are simple enough to be (almost) analytically understood, yet complicated enough to remain interesting. I will describe our attempts to perform higher-precision spectroscopy of the metastable 2s state in hydrogen, in
order to shed light on the "proton radius puzzle" and test QED. I will discuss a new measurement technique that we devised to measure the classic Lamb shift, and present updates on an ongoing experiment to measure the hyperfine interval to better accuracy.
