Title: Tracing the galactic dark matter distribution in simulations
Abstract: Identifying the nature and distribution of dark matter in our Galaxy is a central problem in astroparticle physics, and has important implications for attempts to discovering dark matter. In particular, determining the dark matter distribution in the Solar neighborhood and throughout the Galaxy is crucial for the correct analysis and interpretation of data from dark matter direct and indirect searches, respectively. High resolution cosmological simulations of galaxy formation can provide important information on the properties of the dark matter halo, and can significantly improve our understanding of the Galactic dark matter distribution. I will present the dark matter density and velocity distribution of Milky Way-like galaxies extracted from state-of-the-art hydrodynamical simulations, and discuss their implications for direct and indirect dark matter searches.
