Title: Trapping antimatter - Magnet technology for antihydrogen physics

Abstract: The ALPHA experiments aim to precisely measure the properties of antihydrogen atoms. Magnetic minimum traps are used in these experiments to confine the anti-atoms. These carefully engineered devices constitute a big part of the complexity and cost of the experiments. In this talk, I discuss how these traps are designed for different physics objectives, from laser and microwave interaction, gravity measurement to fountain interferometry, and how the traps are shaped by the constraints of other systems in the experiments. I go over the importance of adiabatic cooling in improving measurement precision, and how different magnet technologies can be exploited to achieve it.
