Title: The LZ dark matter experiment results, and putting DUNE in space to measure MeV gamma rays
Abstract: I will talk about two topics connected by a common technology. First, I will briefly present the recent and world leading results from the LZ experiment, which is searching for WIMP dark matter with a 7 ton liquid Xe time projection chamber (LXe TPC). The attributes of liquid noble TPCs that have made them so powerful for searching for dark matter also can be adapted to solve the formidable challenge of measuring MeV gamma rays. That challenge has meant the MeV gamma ray sky is the most poorly measured part of the entire electromagnetic spectrum. MeV gamma rays arise from black holes, supernova, neutron star merges also seen in gravity waves, and, potentially, dark matter. I will talk about GammaTPC, and new liquid Ar based TPC instrument concept that promises to be transformative in this area.
