Title: Stimulating Nuclear Excitations by means of electrons, muons and photons

Abstract: Wouldn't it be nice if we could store energy for a time comparable to the Universe's age and release it at our will? *********************************

That is what nuclear excitations are, in principle, capable of doing. Unfortunately, as humans we did not yet find a way to store and release energy on demand, efficiently exploiting excited nuclear levels. **********************************

Since the claimed observation in 2018, the Nuclear Excitation by Electron Capture (NEEC) process seemed an efficient way to deplete energy stored in isomers having a peculiar level scheme. Still, disagreement with state-of-the-art theory sparked a live debate about its nature. A recent rebuttal of the experiment showed no signature of the process. In a recent theoretical work, I explored the possibility that NEEC would take place in excited ions, a possibility previously disregarded and discuss how this could reduce the discrepancy. ***************************

In order to increase the excitation probability we recently proposed the possibility to excite the nucleus with the capture of a free muon, and we called the process NEmuC. As results, due to the higher interaction with the nucleus, excitation probabilities result to be much higher than in the NEEC scenario. *******************************

>From the experimental perspective, I will discuss the setup I designed for the observation of delayed nuclear gamma decay in an optical laser-generated plasma environment. ***********************
