Title: Using the Large-Number-of-Colors Limit of QCD to Analyze Nucleon-Nucleon Interaction Strengths in Nuclear Physics
Abstract: This talk is based upon a review article for the Annual Review of Nuclear and Particle Science, written with my collaborators Thomas Richardson (Mainz) and Matthias Schindler (University of South Carolina). The idea is that given any Lagrangian or potential or set of NN interactions (in the standard model or beyond), we can apply a set of tests and techniques to learn which terms will dominant in the large-Nc limit and why. This result can then be used to prioritize experiments, lattice calculations, or many-body calculations. While there are caveats to this approach, it can be particularly useful in a situation where there is little other guidance available, as is often the case at sufficient precision, or for beyond-the-standard-model studies. I will discuss some examples, including parity violation in few-nucleon observables, zero-neutrino double beta decay, and dark matter searches.
