Neutron-induced reactions on unstable nuclei play an important role in nuclear astrophysics. However, direct measurements of neutron-induced reactions on nuclei with half-lives much less than ~100 days are currently extremely difficult, or even impossible. Due to the importance of these reactions to nuclear astrophysics, several indirect methods for constraining them have been developed, among them the Surrogate Reactions Method (SRM). In the SRM, an experimentally tractable reaction, which forms the same compound nucleus (CN) as the desired neutron-induced reaction, is measured. The decay of the CN formed in the surrogate reaction can then be observed, and the observations used to constrain parameters needed to calculate the desired reaction. The SRM has been demonstrated to constrain cross sections for several types of neutron-induced reactions, and work which will expand the technique to other reactions is on-going. I will discuss the method, share new results, and discuss the future of the method in the era of FRIB, where we will be faced with exciting new challenges.
