Neutron stars are compact astrophysical objects observed across the electromagnetic spectrum. Their unique, extreme properties in terms of density, magnetic field and gravity make them appealing laboratories for theoretical ideas. The recent discovery of gravitational waves from the binary coalescence of neutron stars has provided an additional window into the properties of these fascinating objects. In this talk, I will introduce neutron stars and the astronomical observations that allow us to peer into them. I will discuss the connection between key neutron star observables and predictions obtained from ab initio nuclear theory, which can also be directly contrasted with nuclear experiments.
