Title: The latest ultra-precise measurement of the muon's anomalous magnetic moment by the Muon g-2 Experiment
Abstract: The Fermilab Muon g-2 collaboration recently announced our second measurement of the
muon's anomalous magnetic moment amu to 215 parts per billion (ppb) precision. The result is
in excellent agreement with our 2021 measurement as well as that from the previous Brookhaven
Muon g−2 experiment. The "Run-2/3" data, collected in 2019-2020, represents an improvement in
the experimental precision by more than a factor of two compared to "Run-1", and the systematic
uncertainty of 70 ppb surpassed the stated goal for the experiment. Although the systematics are
already quite well understood, efforts are continuing to further reduce several remaining sources
of systematic uncertainty. Meanwhile, the hadronic contribution to the Standard Model theory
prediction for amu has become complicated by tensions between data-driven and lattice calculations
as well as by new hadronic cross section data. I will present our Run-2/3 result and improvements
in the analysis and systematics that enabled this precision. Then I will provide an outlook for
both the experimental measurement and the theory prediction of amu.
