Title: From particle to black hole colliders

Abstract: The detection of gravitational waves at LIGO has kickstarted a new era of experimental gravitational physics. A key ingredient in this endeavor are precise theoretical predictions which enable detection and parameter estimation. In this talk, I will describe how considering the scattering of black holes, neutron stars and gravitons can shed light on the two-body problem in General Relativity, and help produce state-of-the-art predictions of gravitational wave signals. I will explain how leveraging modern ideas from collider and particle physics, such as Feynman diagrams, and basic principles, such as unitarity (probabilities add up to one), as well as surprising relations between gluons and gravitons, we can calculate the basic ingredients for predictions for LIGO and future gravitational wave observatories.
