In 2026, an update to the European Strategy on Particle Physics is planned, it can set the direction for what will come after the High Luminosity LHC upgrade, where Canada is providing key contributions with the crab cavity cryo modules and with its contribution to ATLAS. HL-LHC operation era is scheduled to extend until 2042. This talk will give an overview of the past successes, how the Cern Council functions, the physics questions beyond the standard model, future challenges, and a glimpse at some of the future directions for CERN.
