Date/Time: Tue Aug 26 2025 at 13:30 Location: Auditorium/ hybrid Speaker: Madeline Brown (University of Toronto) Title: Radiation Nanomedicines for the Treatment of Glioblastoma Multiforme Abstract: This presentation will describe a new strategy for the treatment of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), the most common and lethal brain tumour, using a locally delivered radiation nanomedicine. This treatment was developed in collaboration with TRIUMF/UBC and relies on the Auger electron-emitter, 197Hg incorporated into gold nanoparticles. The radiation nanomedicine was studied preclinically for treatment of human GBM tumours in mice. Promising results were obtained with strong tumour growth inhibition that improved survival without toxicity to the normal brain. Future opportunities for radiation nanomedicines for GBM will be discussed.
