Date/Time: Fri Dec 05 2025 at 10:00<br/><br/>Location: Auditorium<br/><br/>Speaker: Sebastian Tattenberg (University of Lyon)<br/><br/>Title: Innovating Medical Physics Research at TRIUMF<br/><br/>Abstract: TRIUMF is home to a variety of unique irradiation facilities, including the Proton Therapy Research Centre (PTRC) and the TRIUMF Neutron Facility (TNF), which allow for fundamental radiobiological research, including into the mechanisms underlying the sparing effect of ultra-high dose rate (FLASH) irradiations. TRIUMF further produces and utilizes numerous radioactive isotopes, including for small animal biodistribution studies, which are highly synergetic with the rapidly-growing field focussing on radiation-induced lymphocyte depletion. As the only Canadian centre with experience in delivering proton radiotherapy, TRIUMF also has the potential to be a national leader in a novel but emerging radiotherapy treatment technique. However, to achieve its vision of ?improving lives and building a better world?, medical physics research at TRIUMF also has to consider the vast number of cancer patients receiving conventional external photon radiotherapy. The seminar therefore focuses on 1) innovative fundamental radiobiological research opportunities at TRIUMF, 2) the synergy between TRIUMF?s radiopharmaceutical work and research focussing on radiation-induced lymphopenia, 3) TRIUMF?s role as a leader of Canadian proton therapy research and expertise, and 4) opportunities of novel radiotherapy research focussing on widely-available irradiation modalities.<br/><br/>.<br/><br/>______________________________<br/><br/>Detailed information available can  be found at <a href='https://www.triumf.ca/research-program/lectures-conferences/upcoming-seminars-lectures'>https://www.triumf.ca/research-program/lectures-conferences/upcoming-seminars-lectures</a> <br/><br/>
