Still, it does not explain why quarks and leptons come in three generations or why their masses exhibit such striking hierarchies. After briefly reviewing this long-standing flavor problem and some existing approaches, I will introduce a simple gauge horizontal model that offers a framework for understanding the masses of all charged fermions. I will conclude with a brief discussion of the model's phenomenological implications and prospects for experimental tests.
