The magnetic trap is generated using a cylindrical Halbach octupole array of permanent magnets combined with superconducting coils for axial confinement. A spin-flip-based loading scheme is used to fill the trap. After a variable storage period, surviving UCNs are counted in situ using a SiPM-based detector capable of operating in high magnetic fields. In this talk, I will briefly explain why measuring the neutron lifetime matters, provide an overview of the tauSPECT experiment highlighting its most critical components, and share preliminary results from statistical and systematic studies based on extended measurement campaigns at the Paul Scherrer Institute, Switzerland.

Get coffees at Cafeteria

______________________________

Detailed information available can be found at https://www.triumf.ca/research-program/lectures-conferences/upcoming-seminars-lectures

Date/Time: Tue Jul 28 2026 at 14:00

Location: Auditorium

Speaker: Luca Doria (Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz)

Title: The MESA Electron Accelerator Facility and its Science Program

Abstract: At the Institute for Nuclear Physics in Mainz, the new electron accelerator MESA (Mainz Energy-recovery Superconducting
Accelerator) will go into operation within the next years. MESA will provide intense electron beams for hadron
and nuclear physics, as well as for light dark matter searches (LDM) and exotic particles like the X17.
In particular, I will present the MAGIX and DarkMESA experiments at MESA. MAGIX is a two-spectrometer setup
coupled with a gas-jet target with a wide physics program. DarkMESA is a beam-dump experiment
focused on LDM. The status of the facility and of the experiments will be presented, together with results from prototype detectors
and projected physics reach.

Host: Chloé Malbrunot

______________________________

Detailed information available can be found at https://www.triumf.ca/research-program/lectures-conferences/upcoming-seminars-lectures
