[Videoconferencing] FYI - EVO recording

FYI

We have been having some success recording the accelerator physics course
on EVO.

EVO recorder records audio and video as separate streams. Desktop capture
is recorded as a separate HD video stream; when replayed it is the full
size of the original and includes the mouse pointer. So it can be used to
record a presentation in PPT or PDF, together with one or more camera
views and audio.
Chat and whiteboard are not recorded.

There is a standalone player which includes an editor; I have an advance
copy of the documentation. It is possible to edit recordings in time
(prune beginning and end, and skip sections) and also to remove unwanted
streams - e.g. edit out remote participants who may not consent to being
recorded.

On playback, the normal video controls are active. I.e. one can create
full-size video windows by clicking on thumbnails, and reposition them on
the screen, and so get the presentation in the original size.
There is a beta version using OpenGL for video, as in the current Koala.
The production version uses the old vievo tool.

The player uses Java Web Start, so with the normal EVO associations one
can click on a recoording URL and launch the player automatically, e.g.
http://andrew2.triumf.ca/phys560/
(javaws maintains an object cache, so it may be possible to play
recordings offline, though I have not checked. The issue is that the
JNLP file gets player components online, not that it can't play a
local file)

It is possible to run screen capture software when the player is running,
and generate a regular movie format for Youtube if required, though that
would remove the ability to select streams and would require fitting
content into a standard sized movie frame.
