Dear ISAC Users,
We have been informed by Accelerator Division that they have diagnosed a water leak in TM4, scheduled to begin operating August 8th. Their recommendation is to initiate repairs immediately in order to ensure higher reliability for TM4 in this and the upcoming schedule. This requires that repairs begin now, and is estimated to require a few weeks, which unfortunately will lead to changes in the current schedule.
In discussion with the Accelerator Division, we concluded that the best path forward to maintain scientific output is to therefore continue running with the current target module, TM2 with a Tantalum target, until the morning of Friday, August 9th. We will then interrupt operation to change the target on TM2, and begin startup shifts with ZrC on August 18th. This will affect a number of experiments and we will be reaching out to those spokespersons directly. The accelerator division is hopeful that following the ZrC target, TM4 will be repaired and allow operation with UCx in TM4 as per the regular schedule.
We will be working with experimental groups and the accelerator division to come up with the most productive science program and we will update the online schedule accordingly. We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused. Please feel free to reach out to Jens Dilling (ALD), Chris Ruiz (Beam Scheduler), or myself with questions or for further information.
Sincerely,
Martin Alcorta, ISAC User Liaison Scientist
