Just as a follow-up to my previous email. What I am going to propose is that we follow an online course week-by-week together and take turns teaching different brief lessons. The course that I am considering is the following:

https://www.coursera.org/learn/machine-learning/

It is a free* course that teaches machine learning while programming in Octave/MATLAB.

Alternatively, we can follow:

https://www.edx.org/course/machine-learning-fundamentals

This is another free* course that is directed at graduate students interested in machine learning.

If you have a chance to check these out by tomorrow, great, if not I'll give a quick presentation outlining what they are about and we can chat then.

*Free means that you can access all of the content, but you have to pay if you want your assignments graded. You also receive a certificate at the end of a paid course signifying you've completed it.

Cheers,

David

Subject: Introductory Meeting Tomorrow?

Hello Data-scientists!

After a very long delay (apologies), I propose that we have our first official meeting tomorrow at 3:30 in the Theory Conference room to discuss the focus of the group and ideas for how to proceed in the coming weeks/months.

If you can't make it to the meeting, let me know!

Cheers,

David
