TRIUMF Tour Guide recruitment

Hello GAPS Community!

I’m very excited to announce that the tour guide program at TRIUMF is looking to recruit new GAPS tour guides! You can find the application form here<https://forms.office.com/r/8XkLmxzv3L>, it'll be reposted at the end of this email too. The deadline to complete this form is Sunday, June 16th at 5pm.

We are currently recruiting 6 new GAPS tour guides as well as an Administrator for the tour program - if you are interested in either of these positions, keep reading! We plan on expanding the number of guides next year and will conduct another recruitment at that time. Please note that immigration status and ability to work as a guide will be reviewed by HR before finalizing an offer.

The details of the terms for the Tours program are attached to this email. This email will contain a brief overview of these terms:

  *   Commitments and expectations
  *   Brief training overview
  *   Remuneration
  *   Program admin overview


Guide commitments and expectations

Here are the basic commitments that we ask from each of our guides:

  *   Commit to an initial 6 month term

     *   4-week training period followed by a 5 month service period
     *   Option to extend by an additional 6 months

  *   Provide one 1-hour time slot per week during which you are available to give tours



Training plan

We are planning to offer training during the month of July – please let me know if you cannot make the training at this time. Here are the 4 steps:

  1.  Introductory information session
  2.  Site access training
  3.  Study the guide (or go on a tour with a current guide)
  4.  Supervised tour with visitors



Renumeration

The completion of the training means you will get paid $200 (3 hours of training + the supervised tour). Beyond training, guides will be paid out as a $100 stipend every two weeks, matching the regular TRIUMF pay schedule.



GAPS Tours Program Administrator

We are also looking for a new administrator for the GAPS tour guide program, with a service period of 1 year. The main responsibility of this position in ensuring that the tours are offered and delivered to the public consistently every week. This is achieved by completing the following responsibilities:

  *   Ensure that tours are always staffed by a guide
  *   Acquiring guide availability and determining a weekly schedule
  *   Recruiting and training new guides on a bi-yearly basis
  *   Represent tour guides and the GAPS tour program in communications with other departments at TRIUMF



The Admin needs to be able to step in last minute for a tour and therefore must be trained in providing tours. The Admin will take part in the tour guide training, and will be trained by me gradually over the next few months and officially take over the position in August.

The Admin is expected to contribute on average 2 hours per week and is renumerated with a $200 stipend every two weeks. Lastly, this is a position that falls under the Learn2Lead program at TRIUMF – the Admin can obtain from TRIUMF letters of recommendation based on the skills and experiences gained in this position.
