Monday next week I will be changing the update script to a new one that
is base on yum (Yet another Update Manager or Yellowdog Update Manager).
This is driven in part by the phasing out of Redhat support for older
version (support now given by Fedora Legacy). It will also make
maintaining the update patches much easier.
The first time the new script runs it installs yum (if necesary) and
other necessary infrastructure (gpg signatures). After that the changes
should be mostly transparent to the user.
One improvement is that new versions of the kernel can be installed
(after next Monday) by running
/triumfcs/linux/redhat/triumf-up2date -k
It is then necessary to reboot to actually use the new kernel.
