A recent update to firefox in ScientificLinux-4 (SL-4) caused a problem
for those using the 32-bit version of firefox (firefox.i386) on a 64-bit
machines. If you have installed 64-bit SL-4.5 or laster using a TRIUMF
kickstart, then firefox.i386 is the default. This is so that java and
flash plugins work.

Here is the fix.

There's a file conflict between the 32 and 64-bit versions of one of the
dependencies so the 64-bit version needs to be removed first. This
necessitates also removing and reinstalling firefox.

    yum remove firefox evolution28-{pango,gtk2,cairo,glib2}
    yum install firefox.i386 \
                evolution28-{pango,cairo,gtk2,glib2}.i386

If you still have problems starting firefox on 64-bit SL-4 after
applying this fix, then contact me.
