Title: Resonant Bose-Einstein condensation
Abstract: BEC near a Feshbach resonance provides a unique macroscopic quantum system with widely adjustable interactions. This has resulted in a variety of interesting behaviors. It also allows the creation and study of coherent superpositions of atomic and molecular BECs, two quantum fields with adjustable coupling. These exotic molecules are more like "Bosonic Cooper-pairs" than traditional molecules and their properties and coupling to free atom states can be extensively controlled.
Stimulants available 15 minutes before the talk.
Professor Wieman, Nobel Laureate in Physics, will also present a public lecture: "Bose-Einstein condensation: quantum weirdness at the lowest temperature in the universe" at the Vancouver Institute at 8:15 PM on Saturday November 15 (UBC, IRC#2).
