Title:     The Quest for Superheavy Elements

Abstract: The last two decades have seen remarkable progress in our understanding of the physics and chemistry of the heaviest elements with the discovery of elements 110-114, the first synthesis of elements 115-118 and the first chemical studies of elements 104-114.  I review these efforts and summarize current experiments to synthesize more neutron-rich nuclei and to extend the periodic table. I will discuss current efforts to understand the synthesis reactions and identify the critical parameters for further work involving the use of radioactive beams, and  multi-nucleon transfer reactions in synthesizing the heaviest elements.
