Title:     Physics Meets Engineering

Abstract: The requirements for high precision experiments in the field of particle physics need more complex instruments to perform measurements. The demands of resources increases and require good coordination and management of the projects. Costs have to be controlled very stringent even we are performing research and development with unknown outcome.

The talk deals with strategies and means to overcome these challenges. Answers shall be given how to start in the right manner and to communicate successfully. Means like specifications, block diagrams, functional diagrams, relational database systems are considered. The role of legal aspects will be mentioned. Examples of some projects and developments are used to explain the methodology and methods. Furthermore some technological and technical achievements in course of particle physics experiments (e.g. ultra cold neutron (UCN) research) are highlighted.

The speaker is Mechanical Engineer since 1985. He worked 10 years in the field of Environmental Control & Life Support Systems for military and astronautic use. Another 8 years he serviced in the field of pharmaceutical plant engineering& construction. Before joining the Munich Universities in 2005 he developed pharmaceutical packing and the required production lines.
