Title:     FACET: The Facility for Advanced aCcelerator Experimental Tests at SLAC

Abstract: FACET (Facility for Advanced aCcelerator Experimental Tests) is a relatively new User Facility at SLAC for experiments requiring extreme particle densities in all planes. “Flagship experiments” like PWFA, DWA and others explore novel acceleration methods using the 20-GeV electron beam from the upper two-thirds of the SLAC Linac. A three-stage bunch-compression system with stages at 1 GeV, 9 GeV and 20 GeV compresses bunches down to nominally 20 µm in length. The 20-GeV bunch-compression chicane and the final focusing system share features with linear-collider final-focusing systems like strong focusing, strong sextupoles and corresponding sensitivities to misalignments and aberrations. The whole facility was commissioned in 2011, produced first physics results in 2012 and just concluded its 2013 physics run.
   In this talk I will introduce FACET, show selected results from the beam commissioning as well as some physics highlights.
