Date/Time: Thu 2021-02-04 at 14:00

Location: Remote

Speaker: Eden Hennessey (Laurier University)

Title: Physics, Identity, and Equity

Abstract: Inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA) in science have been longstanding issues of interest among social scientists. In light of recent world events highlighting systemic social inequities, social scientists are revisiting how science is done, by whom, and how. In this talk, Dr. Hennessey will approach IDEA from a social psychological perspective, addressing the role of empirical data, relevant theoretical frameworks like Social Identity Theory, and implications for how fields like physics can contribute to more inclusive science.
