Title: Studying the properties of Antihydrogen with Vertex Detectors and Machine Learning

Abstract: The aim of the ALPHA experiment at CERN is to trap cold atomic antihydrogen and study its properties. Precision comparisons between the hydrogen and antihydrogen atomic structure, and antihydrogen’s interaction with Earth’s gravitational field test fundamental symmetries of nature.

ALPHA has several detector technologies for imaging single annihilation events. These include a Silicon Vertex Detector (SVD), a radial Time Projection Chamber (rTPC), and a Scintillation Barrel Veto across two experimental apparatuses.

Both the SVD and rTPC are used to image single annihilation events, reconstructing spatial and timing information of the antiproton annihilation. With the aid of machine learning, the detector can be utilised in various modes: Ranging from low background counting experiments in laser spectroscopy, to high signal and background acceptance for accurate vertex reconstruction and collective plasma behaviour studies. Experimental methodology, recent progress, analytical methods, and experimental results will be presented.
