Title: High-Precision measurements of hydrogen atoms on the ALPHA collaboration
Abstract: In recent years the ALPHA collaboration has produced great results in the areas of production, trapping and antihydrogen measurements. The most recent result was the demonstration, for the first time, of laser cooling of anti-atoms trapped in the apparatus.
These results open the door for the next question: what will be more precise measurement made with antihydrogen? One way to answer this question is doing measurements of hydrogen atoms in the same apparatus where antihydrogen is produced and studied. In this way all the systematic effects will be the same and a comparison between matter and antimatter can be made over the same conditions.
At this talk I will present the Matrix Isolation Sublimation (MISu) technique as one of the mechanisms to produce slow and cold hydrogen beams, and with that try to answer the question above. The MISu technique can generate cold and slow atomic and molecular beams which are suitable for high-precision spectroscopy measurements. Besides that, the production of cold and slow atomic beams can be useful in several experiments, such as, a mechanism for load neutral magnetic traps, ion traps and applications for the development of atomic clocks/fountains.
