Title:     Insights from the KEK-TRIUMF Exchange Program: Explorations in Electron Beam Physics and the Development of Automated Tuning Tools at cERL

Abstract: This seminar is dedicated to sharing firsthand experiences while participating in beam commissioning activities at an alternate research facility, specifically cERL at KEK, under the KEK-TRIUMF Exchange Program (EPECR) framework. The EPECR program has the potential to enhance collaborative efforts in accelerator science and technology while growing the skills and experience in the participants. This presentation covers an overview of the various projects that were undertaken during a recent trip to KEK sponsored by EPECR. Notably, automated tuning tools, incorporating machine learning applications, were developed to streamline and reduce the beam loss from the non-linear beam at the injection beamline of cERL. These innovative tools are also intended for application at our e-LINAC, aiming to enhance tuning efficiency and maximize the beam production for ARIEL isotope production. Additionally, a significant focus was placed on the vital study of high space charge electron beams, particularly in the lower energy region at cERL. This research has proven to be instrumental in providing crucial information for beam dynamics calculations essential to the development of a Terahertz photon source powered by the TRIUMF e-LINAC.
